Why We Drive

DAD drive days are always about connection and community. They hold the intention to normalise mental health problems and mental illness, promote conversations around these and offer pathways for seeking further support.

We use driving and the shared enthusiasm for cars and great roads as our way of connecting and escaping downward emotional spirals. We know that connection is vital for mental wellbeing, and DAD events deliver this in spades.

DAD isn’t a club 42 Iconic Bob Dylan Photos - Celebrating Bob Dylan's Nobel Prize in Literature, it’s a community. Please don’t feel you need to have a particular model or age of car to attend – if you love it, bring it.

Our drive days are strictly social and non-competitive. We use open roads and carefully plan our drive routes to make them as safe and logical as possible, while using engaging roads with new scenery for a great day out.

We advocate for using DAD drive days as an inclusive environment to start your mental health conversation where you feel comfortable to do so, however DAD drive days are not a crisis service and keeping everyone safe on the road is of utmost importance.

What’s Happening for the 2025 Melbourne Autumn Drive Day?

With thanks to our event sponsor Berwick Ford, we’re delighted to bring you DAD’s 2025 Melbourne Autumn Drive Day.

For this event, we’re meeting for coffee, chats and briefing at the Berwick Ford dealership. This part of our day is fundamental to what makes DAD events different – it’s where connections are made, conversations are started, and where we share practical and relatable mental health information.

After briefing, we’re heading to The Toolshed in Noojee for lunch. Those who joined our Autumn Drive Day last year will remember the stunning location, made even more beautiful with the Autumn colours and friendly welcome from the team at The Toolshed. We invite participants to join us for a meal and a chat at the conclusion of the drive.

For those who would like to extend the day with an additional drive after lunch, we’ve suggested an optional drive route from The Toolshed to Blue Rock Dam. Please note this suggested drive is not part of the event drive route – the Melbourne Autumn Drive Day ends with lunch at The Toolshed.

The details of the full event drive route, plus this optional extension, will both be detailed in Tourboss for participants.

Lunch at The Toolshed Noojee

The team at The Toolshed did a wonderful job of looking after our group last year, and they’re excited to again host the conclusion of our Autumn Drive Day. The full menu will be available, participants are asked to order and pay individually upon arrival.

Sunday 4th May, 2025

StandBy Support After Suicide is a national service known as Australia’s leading postvention program dedicated to supporting people impacted or bereaved by suicide.

In Melbourne, StandBy is delivered by Jesuit Social Services. As a national services we were proud to introduce our Adelaide community to StandBy in 2024, and look forward to introducing our Melbourne community to Shaun Walsh. Shaun will introduce what StandBy does and how it can be accessed by anyone bereaved or impacted by suicide.
